French
Our French learning journey begins in EYFS with a weekly lesson introducing this Modern Foreign Language through songs, stories and games.
Weekly lessons continue throughout KS1 and KS2. We use the Language Angels French scheme of work and resources to deliver a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils.
Each year is divided into 6 units covering a wide variety of topics and themes; from colour and animals to the weather and World War II. This enables each pupil to build progressively on their skills and knowledge, using grammatical structures with increasing confidence, broadening vocabulary, and improving pronunciation.
Scheme content is reviewed annually to ensure that learning remains dynamic and that the four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing are taught effectively with plenty of opportunity to revisit prior learning.
Our intent is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity for foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating.
Learning a second language also offers pupils the opportunity to grow a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them, which supports and develops their Cultural Capital. Pupils will build solid foundations to continue language learning throughout KS3 and move towards becoming life-long language learners.
